Building a platform to improve access to community resources and opportunities

Product Designer - Lead Product Designer | Feb 2026 - Apr 2026

FilipinoHub is a community-driven platform built to support Filipino people in Hong Kong, where they often face discrimination and limited access to opportunities. It brings together businesses, talent, and essential resources, helping users find community, support, and more inclusive opportunities in one place.

Website design
background

While FilipinoHub had strong content and intent, the experience lacked structure. Users struggled to navigate, discover resources, and take action.

My role
  • I designed the website end-to-end, from competitive analysis and wireframes to final UI.

  • I collaborated with developers and conducted QA to ensure a smooth and accurate launch.

impact

This made it easier for users to discover and access community resources and opportunities. It reduced friction in finding businesses, services, and support within the platform.

Old Landing page

Problem

In mapping out the experience and comparing similar platforms, it became clear that the issue was not the content, but how it was surfaced:

  1. The entry points did not clearly guide users on where to begin

  2. Related information was scattered across pages without clear connections

  3. Discovering relevant businesses or resources required multiple steps

  4. Once found, there was no strong prompt or direction on what to do next

SOLUTION

To address these gaps, I restructured the website around how users explore and act on information, while shaping a clearer and more cohesive experience. I also refined the visual and interaction design to feel more welcoming and intuitive.

why the experience works

The experience was designed to help users quickly understand the platform and move from exploration to action.

  1. Clear entry points
Users can immediately identify where to begin based on their needs, such as finding services or exploring opportunities.

  2. Focused discovery
Content is grouped into meaningful categories, making it easier to browse businesses, resources, and community support.

  3. Actionable pathways
Each section guides users toward clear next steps, whether it is contacting a business or accessing support.

REFLECTION
Structure determines usability at scale

Even with strong content, poor organisation limits impact. Designing clear structure made the platform usable, not just accessible.

Designing for real-world needs

Users were looking for support, not just information. Keeping their context in mind helped shape more practical and relevant experiences.
